Little antique oak chair with decoratively carved high narrow back rest, with bird motifs, shaped seat and splayed turned legs. These are called Welsh spinning chairs; I'm not sure if they're supposedly actually from Wales, or it's just the design (like Welsh dressers..); the spinning part is because they were originally made for sitting on at a spinning wheel. I think even by the early 1900s when this was made, that was largely a bygone craft, so these were probably already a decorative traditional item, not really intended for use. You could sit on it; we've tightened up the legs, but they probably wouldn't put up with too much 'heavy' use.. Condition isn't bad: structurally it's sound enough: legs and back not wobbly; cosmetically there are various scuffs and scrapes but not too bad. Little bit of old worm in one leg; not enough to be structural and we've treated it for good measure. Dimensions: 32cm wide x 31cm x 88cm (seat height 34cm)
